Locating Missing Life Insurance Policies
If you need to find out if a recently deceased relative had any life
insurance policies, the National Insurance Consumer Helpline may be able to
track the information down. Call the Helpline at 1-800-942-4242 (M-F, 8 am-8 pm
ET), and give the name of the possible policy owner. Then ask to initiate a
request to participating insurance companies to check their databases. When you
call the service, you should press "1" to get information about life
insurance. The next step is to press "1" for information about the
"Missing Policy Service." The time frame for carrying out a search is
several months, but it can be well worth the effort.
