I just wanted to let you know that I stopped in for a visit. My heart just breaks for you and your family. The wheels of justice seem to turn so slowly and some cases not at all. My angel entered the gates of heaven on Aug. 10, 2002 at the age of 20, there has been no justice. It is so infuriating the lack of motivation by the Chicago police to get this murder solved. Not a day goes by that I don't think of Twila and the whole trial. Please know that the jury did not think that Twila took her own life, but that the state did not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that her husband did.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I have lost a father to murder and although I have no idea what it must feel like to lose a child in any case, I do feel your pain in my own way. My prayers are with your family.
That was a lovely, moving eulogy. I related to the Twila that was presented there and I can only hope that people will have such nice things to say about me when I pass.
"Incredulous" seems like a total idiot. How could you call someone you don't even know NIHILISTIC? That's heavy man...Talk about putting your head up your ass. Who are YOU to say that? It is one thing to make assumptions based on something you obviously know NOTHING about, but to come on here and disrupt all the love and empathy that these people are trying to share with Twila's grief-stricken family and friends? Are your opinions so important that you have to hurt someone to get them out in the open? Who do you think you are? I don't know you so I won't make any claims about YOUR personality, but I will say that what you have done is insensitive, callous and unkind. SHAME on you! You owe these people an apology!

your loss, I am a survivor of D/V also, I have two boys who I would have given my life up for, for them not to be hurt. To watch your loved ones go thru this is very hard, I
couldn't see my family or my friends - he destroyed my relationship with them, he was
trying to destroy my children and me. And would have succeeded if he didn't forget to lock the bus door that night.
There was MY CHANCE - I found my keys, grabbed my 3 yr and my 1 yr old and took the money that
I had hid and left. But today I am still in hiding - 13 years later he's still looking for me. So be strong, the law doesn't also help, You have something more powerful

The James Wiley Murder Trial ~ A Father's Epilogue, of Sorts.....
A man of much wisdom not long ago shared this phrase with me: "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift - that's why its called 'the present'". As the father of a murdered very young woman named Twila Jane and the unborn child she already chose a girl's name for, I must somehow on a daily, hourly, by minute or even by heartbeat basis try to apply that phrase, to where it makes some semblance of sense to me, in order to survive and be of value to my remaining family. This especially now in the aftermath of the recent acquittal of the man most still believe killed my kids. Bearing the unbearable at the James Wiley murder trial. I don't know if I will ever understand how from the outset to the end the defense attorney succeeded in turning it into my daughter Twila being the one put on trial for the murder of her unborn child, and the court allowed that theme to continue as if it would backfire on the defense. In the end the defense indeed failed to prove suicide as it claimed in opening statements it would do. Well the defense did not have to. It did a masterful job in cutting down the many authority figures who to this day maintain Twila was indeed murdered, and a masterful job creating so-called reasonable doubt in the heads of the jurors by showing them this mystery jigsaw puzzle the "people of" the State
apparently did put together, but upside down. So both of the once upon a time happy couple Twila and James Wiley were acquitted. Who can fault the average jury, ours who were prompted to rush to a verdict in weariness the same evening of the last long day of the trial ? Closure for our daughter's death for Mom, Dad, her siblings and all who knew the real Twila ? No such thing, impossible. No less so-called legal closure for the people, the crimes have not been solved. Many have said to me over 2 years since Twila's death there are no winners in this whole thing. As such I ponder now about the Divine fate that followed the recent passing of Johnny Cochran who succeeded in keeping O.J. Simpson mingling amongst free society even today.

In no way, shape, or form does promiscuity or a trashy lifestyle justify murder...ever. BUT it does seem that those who are candidates for a guest shot on "The Jerry Springer Show" are more prone to the type of unhealthy choices and violent ending that befell the victim in this case. And, unfortunately, the nihilistic and self-centered behavior exhibited by a woman that couldn't even keep her pants zipped up, despite being married, directly or indirectly contributed to the misery the surviving family members will have to endure for years to come. So, yes, we all DO choose our own destiny. It's too bad the selfish choices made in this case will also effect the destiny of others for such a long period of time.
As for the verdict.....the defendant WAS found not guilty by a jury of his peers, despite a story that appears to have more holes than a colander. He has certainly created his own destiny as well and I don't believe it will be a pleasant one.

Most young men and women at the ages of 16-19 believe that they know all and are making the right choices in their lives, it's just that age. We all basically know that many mistakes are made and eventually we learn from them. I believe that Twila was well on her way to becoming a wonderful young mother and that child would have had the best time growing up. In a response to Incredulous as far as "creating our own destiny", I believe that to be true to a certain extent. There are others in ones' life who also contribute. Twila was trying to turn to the positive and make a better life for herself and that of her unborn child. There is never a justification for murder, regardless of premarital sex or an affair, I don't accept that argument. What I find questionable is that her truck was spotted out at the park all day and even by her husband and his brother, so why at some point and time did they not go out and look for Twila throughout the park or trails? How is it that later in the evening he knew the exact location to go to? It was dark, he apparently had no flashlight but knew where to find her?? We may never get the answers we are seeking but I do know that Twila is in a much better place beside God. To Twila's parents and siblings may you one day find peace and know that we all are praying for the family.

strong. I received the E-Mail that was sent to me back in February. I have been taking care of my Mom who was very ill from heart
disease, and my Dad who has seizures & Parkinson's. They are doing fine. I Thank "GOD" for the both of them each day. I am back in my home, staying with them only 3 days a week. The last time I mentioned wanting to use "Twila" name as a baby girls name. Well I still do. My husband and I have been trying to have a child since last September. We stopped for a few months because my body was under a great deal of
stress. We are now trying again. I could not help but to grasp at beautiful boy or girl names. As I feel, "Twila" must have done. I was very angry with James Wiley for destroying such beautiful and innocent lives.
Now, I feel "GOD" will deal with him accordingly. The system has his poison-his life. "Twila", and her sweet baby will continue to rest with "GOD", and the Angels forever. I remember the confusion over the name on the plot. PLEASE tell me you gave your darling daughter her birth name. "Twila Jane Doering".
Twila's" last day here holds a deep but sad remembrance for me. My brother "Marlon", at age 20. Joined his Angels on that same day. August 7, 1993. I still miss his presence. But know that he is in a better place, because "GOD" called him home. My father shares this very same day. As a birthday he never celebrates. Forget "Twila", NEVER!! I didnt know her personally. There is a part of me that has a strong connection, for her that I cannot explain. When is

I know you do not know me but I wanted to let you know that you are not alone, My sister was murdered 8-13-2002 and my family is still dealing with the loss, I would like to say that it gets easier and that time heals all pain, but this is not something that time can heal this has to be
dealt with by looking to God for strength, I know that he has helped me through a lot. I am 38 yrs old and I have lost both grandpas, many aunts and close friends, when my youngest daughter was 2 yrs old her father
committed suicide, I could not speak to my parents for many reasons, then my sister, in 4-24-2004 my god-son was found dead at age 20, (we lost his twin the day after he was born) then his father was injured at work 2 days before thanksgiving 2004 he will be in a wheel chair for the rest of his life. then on 12-30-2004 my father was killed in a car accident and my mother was injured badly, oh yeah I lost my job on 12-21-2004 for a billing error, my mom now lives with me and I am loosing my home because she requires 24 hour care and I am not able to work. I know that people have a much worse life story than I do but I hope and pray that you look to God, He gets me through each day and I know that I can not give up he will not allow me to give up. and he will not allow you to give up if you keep the faith and know that your loved one is now in his arms and could not be in a safer place, your loved one will never feel pain and will only know peace. Please keep that in mind on the bad days, the ones that you just can not seem to get up out of bed, know that you are not now and never will be alone. you always have a friend.
I am not sure what made me write to you, I just felt I had to in hopes that you will see that you are never alone and that no matter how bad it gets someone has had it a lot worse has gone through more pain has felt more sorrow but somehow they still find the strength to keep going.
so PLEASE keep going, We will never know the answers to all the questions we just have to know in our hearts that God has a plan and that our loved ones are in his care.

I can't say I was one of Twila's closest friends but we were friends in school. She was a year a head of me and we would stand outside in the mornings before school and chit chat about life. She was a great person and i wish i could have got to know her better. i think i seen her a year before it happened and she seemed to me to be as happy as always. i never met james and now i'm glad i didn't. although i have to say when i heard, like a lot of people the first person that came to mind was him. i really am sorry for your loss and i wish everyday i could do it over again to know the Twila you did.......you are right she is up there looking down and i know that she is happy for whatever we are all doing in our lives. I do however think it is a shame of how long it took Waterloo Police to figure out James did it. It doesn't take a rocket scientist you know? Anyway I want to thank you for putting this website up. How are all of you ? Again i write to let you know I checked in again to find the latest news on your daughter. I had saw the big write up in a paper at my sisters house on Saturday. It is time for justice and i know your daughter is very proud of you for not giving up and finally getting her murderer. She and you both finally will get some justice and she can finally rest in peace in her graceful home. You all know Twila is so very happy you all never gave up and the Waterloo police never gave up. what can i say, i just heard about the arrest on fox 2 news. i am going to catch the six o'clock news to be able to catch the whole story.
i am so happy for all of you. it has been a long journey with still more to come but you are also closer to laying twila and the baby to rest.
